Cooking
Okay I lied, cooking is not actually a true hobby/interest of mine. I generally dislike cooking, and view it as an annoying chore.
But that said, I do want to grow and improve my repertoire and techniques. Because the end result is delicious food that I and my loved ones can enjoy, and who doesn't want that?
Recipe management
I've been enjoying using Cooklang, and its spinoff tool cooklang-chef, for managing and viewing recipes in a flexible plain text format. Plain text everything!
Todo - host my Cooklang recipes in a Github repo, and link to it here!
Also todo - once that's done, look into hosting on the Cooklang Federation.
Books
- The Flavor Bible - indispensable for thinking of ingredients and dishes that complement others. There's nothing else like it.
- How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, by Mark Bittman. I am not a vegetarian, but this is an incredible resource not only for recipes, but generally as a wealth of information on ingredients.
- Made in Taiwan, by Clarissa Wei. Most of these are too involved, or require ingredients that are too obscure for me to bother with sourcing. But I've loved the dishes that I have tried, and the overall message and presentation of the book make me feel a tremendous sense of pride in the homeland that family comes from.
